Prime Numbers

Published on

A prime number is a special type of number that can only be divided evenly by 1 and itself. For example, the number 7 is a prime number because the only numbers it can be divided evenly by are 1 and 7.

Think of prime numbers like the building blocks of numbers. When we want to make a bigger number, we can combine smaller numbers together. For example, we can combine the prime numbers 2 and 3 to make the number 6.

So, prime numbers are important because they help us understand how numbers can be made from smaller building blocks. They also have special properties that make them useful in many different areas of mathematics.

A prime number is a positive integer greater than 1 that has no positive integer divisors other than 1 and itself. For example, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 are prime numbers.
